Burbank EV charger rebate: what BWP pays and how to qualify
Burbank Water and Power (BWP) pays Burbank residents up to $1,500 toward buying and installing up to two home charging stations, including an additional amount when a panel upgrade is needed. Here is how the program works, from BWP's own page.

Rebate amounts
The amount depends on the charger type, whether a panel upgrade is required, and whether the home is in a disadvantaged community (DAC).

You cannot claim the panel upgrade rebate without a charging station rebate.
Who is eligible
All BWP residential customers, including tenants and residents of single-family and multi-family homes. Multi-family building owners who install chargers for tenants apply for BWP's Commercial EV Charging Station Rebate instead.
The steps, as BWP lays them out
- Hire a licensed contractor. They choose the location with you and inspect the panel and circuits to see whether a panel or circuit upgrade is needed.
- Call BWP if you need a new panel. BWP Service Planning, (818) 238-3647, as soon as possible. BWP checks whether its side of the service needs an upgrade too.
- Check the charger qualifies. Review the technical requirements in BWP's program terms and FAQs before buying.
- Install, permit and inspect. The work must be permitted and pass inspection by Burbank's Building & Safety Division. The permits go in with the application.
- Apply. Download BWP's rebate application and send it with the required documents. Processing may take 4 to 6 weeks.

Burbank rebate questions
Can tenants get the Burbank rebate?
Yes. BWP says the program is open to all BWP residential customers, including tenants and residents of single-family and multi-family homes. Building owners installing chargers for tenants apply through BWP's commercial program instead.
Can I get the panel rebate without a charger rebate?
No. BWP says you cannot claim a panel upgrade rebate without receiving a rebate for an EV charging station.
How long does BWP take to pay?
BWP says processing may take 4 to 6 weeks after you submit the application.
What is a DAC customer?
A customer in a disadvantaged community, as defined by the California Environmental Protection Agency (CalEPA). BWP's rebate page links to CalEPA's page for it. DAC customers get higher amounts.
