How much does EV charger installation cost in Los Angeles and Burbank?

Start with the scenario closest to your home. A parking spot near a panel with available capacity is a different job from a detached garage that needs trenching. Published local guides give ranges rather than flat prices because the route and existing electrical capacity change the work.

Which utility, permit office, and rebates apply in your city?

Burbank: BWP and Burbank Building & Safety

Burbank Water and Power is community-owned, by the citizens of Burbank. Its residential EV charger rebate is open to all BWP residential customers, including tenants, with up to $1,500 total for up to 2 stations.

A standard charger qualifies for $200, or $300 in a disadvantaged community. A smart charger qualifies for $500, or $600 in a disadvantaged community. An eligible panel upgrade adds $750, or $900 in a disadvantaged community. There is no panel rebate without a charger rebate, and BWP uses the CalEPA definition of a disadvantaged community.

A permit and a Burbank Building & Safety inspection are required. Permits are submitted with the rebate application, and rebate processing takes 4 to 6 weeks. BWP's steps say “Hire a Licensed Electrician.” If you need a new panel, call BWP Service Planning early at (818) 238-3647.

City of Los Angeles: LADWP and LADBS

Your utility is LADWP, and permits come from the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety, or LADBS. Studio City is in the City of Los Angeles, so it uses LADWP and LADBS too.

LADWP offers residential account holders up to $1,000, with an extra $500 for Lifeline or EZ-SAVE customers, bringing that amount to up to $1,500. A dedicated EV meter can qualify for an extra $250.

Book an LADWP service assessment before installation. The LADBS permit must show “Finaled” status to claim the rebate. To claim installation costs, LADWP requires a licensed installer, and the invoice must show the installer's electrical license number.

Pasadena: PWP and City of Pasadena Building and Safety

Pasadena Water and Power offers $600 for a Wi-Fi/internet-connected Level 2 charger or $200 for a standard charger, with a maximum of 2 per address. Apply within 180 days. A 240V outlet alone and switchable Level 1/Level 2 chargers are not eligible. The charger must be NRTL listed with a J1772 or Tesla connector.

A City of Pasadena Building and Safety permit is required for a hardwired charger or a new or modified 240V outlet. Contact the Pasadena Permit Center at (626) 744-4200.

Glendale: GWP and City of Glendale Building and Safety

Glendale Water and Power is a City of Glendale department and has its own program. Rebate amounts could not be verified, so check GWP's current program page rather than budgeting around an assumed amount. Permits come from City of Glendale Building and Safety.
